Hey everyone,
I see it's been about 2 years since I last posted. I thought it was 1... No biggie, right?
I got into a lull last year trying to stay productive at home when the demo I was working on (see "Street Market") became quite a lot of 3D work. I haven't put up the civilian models I worked on yet, I'll be sure to do that soon.
It was an excellent project for me to practice all kinds of new skills; making shaders with height maps, RGB masks, detail normals, fresnel, transmission colors, puddle shaders to simulate water, tileable road and curb textures, explosion particles, gun muzzle smoke, bullet holes, and more! Now that the demo's finished, there's been more time and avenues to explore with new projects at home.
For starters, I decided to start contributing to the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod SkyWind's development. It's a fan-made unofficial mod that sets to recreate one of the prequels to the game, Morrowind, using the updated graphics engine from Skyrim. Morrowind has long been considered one of my favorite video games of all time. The environments, characters, and stories were so other-worldly and engaging. *Pictured is a concept painting I did today representing one of the locales in the game, to try and offer some ideas for set-dressing and layout based on the original game.
I've also started working on some concept art for a few projects, one with a friend, and one my own. I'm planning on modeling a character for my friend's game idea that I'll post once finished. I've also been studying creating my own head base-mesh for speed-sculpting head busts, using a lot of reference from others. And, last but not least, did an outside pencil/paper sketch for the first time in For Ever. Trying to make it a habit to go multiple times a week, it's incredibly refreshing. Cold weather makes it a plus.
