FIEA's approaching a little faster than I anticipated, but I think I'm pretty prepped to take on the workload. Overall, I'd say this summer was a moderate success (successful...in a moderate kind of way). I got to mostly finish a model, start 2 others, 1 of them in a comfortable state of definitely-finishable, the other still in its raw stages; work very well on my first freelancing job, and do some sketching along the way to keep my drawing skills in check. Not to mention actually kicking back and taking a breather! Vacationing, relaxing, going out...feels good to be a human again, haha.
As far as which project got where specifically, Toothless is pretty much said and done except for his eyeballs and mouth. This is huge for me to say that, because, although you can read me saying "Toothless is done" in my last post....nahhhh not really. It was one of those moments where you look at something you've done, as proud as you may be of it, and go "Wow....you know what?....This isn't what I had in mind AT ALL from the get-go..." (Read Evil Queen Redo post, I get these moments a lot unfortunately, haha) So I pushed myself to re-texture him, and needless to say, the results speak for themselves. He's not perfect, but hot damn he's the best thing I've ever textured, period. Super proud. High Five.
The two projects I mentioned that are in limbo are the Alice-In-Wonderland-Bubblegum-Princess-Dreampuff girl, and the Jason Statham realistic Bust. The Alice girl, or "Moxie" (tentative name...was all I could think of lol) has come along quite nicely. Modeling is finished, and I've been UVing the character for almost what's like a week and a half now. Yes, way too much time to spend on UVng, but I think the time spent will produce some clean results. Id hate to see my work come out sub-par just because objects weren't mapped carefully.
J-Stath is more or less a bewildering assignment for myself because it was supposed to be my big test for learning 3ds Max 2010. Long story short, I think I understand why Maya is my calling. I literally got so irked by the extrude tool in Max that I gave up, threw my model into Maya, and fixed the problems Max was gave me in no-time-flat. I dunno if this extrude tool is just native to newer versions of Max only, but man, it is quite precarious to use.
I'll post pictures of anything once finished
